Tuesday changed the news. It means that we're settling down to to 7 weeks of election dominated headlines. To the bragging and the bickering. To the promises and the policy decision. To hard and soft Brexit. To claim and counter claim. I feel tired and cynical just thinking about it! An attitude which I need to repent of if I am to make an informed decision on June 8th.

Yet the main news item hasn't changed. It hasn't changed since Mark 1:1;

"The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God..."

Jesus is THE news. Because he THE Messiah, the promised rescuing King of the Old Testament. Something that his disciples begin to grasp by Mark 8:29;

“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.”

He is THE news, because he is the Son of God. He is the Lord of the Old Testament clothed in flesh, drawing close to his people that they might know him. The first person to declare that in Mark's gospel is the man in charge of his execution.

"And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died, he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!” (Mark 15:39)

In between those three declarations in the most wonderful collection of eye witness testimony about the God-man Jesus Christ.

Undoubtedly over the next few weeks the media will be trying to dig the dirt on the candidates. Find holes and hypocrisy in the policies and the policy makers. And undoubtedly they'll succeed.

But when it comes to Jesus even his fiercest enemies found to be a man to total integrity. So much so that they had to bring false witnesses against him at his trial.

Jesus is THE news, that bears up to all examination. He is THE news because he is the one and only Son of God come to die and rise again to restore people to relationship with their Father in heaven.

So here's an idea to make the next 7 weeks of election campaigning a little more bearable. Why not read Mark's gospel? It would only be just over a couple of chapters a week. At the end you'd know who is the Prime Minister of the UK. And who is the King of kings!
