I'm giving up on Poldak after I read an article on the controversy surrounding last week's episode. (I'm way behind on iplayer). Did Ross rape Elizabeth or was the sex consensual? Call me naive, but I'd rather hoped that my hero would remain faithful to his wife. Perhaps we could rename the series "Demelza"!
Rape is a dreadful crime. And we need to protect the victims and punish the perpetrators.
Consensual sex has been in the news a lot recently with the Ched Evans case. I read an interview with his fiancée which I found strangely encouraging. Not only because of her willingness to forgive him. But also because even though she never believed that he had committed rape, she still talked about his behaviour being "immoral".
God thinks sex is fantastic. He invented it after all! And because sex is so intimate. So beautiful. Such a powerful thing between two people. He gave simple instructions to protect us. Sex was for a man and a woman in life long marriage. Genesis 2:24 has a very specific order:
"That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh."
Everything else is immoral.
That's why my wife gave her consent to me sober and in front of about 150 witnesses!
Yes each time you have sex within marriage there has to be the specific consent of both partners. But that's a blog for another day....
