Giving for the Gospel
In his letters to the church at Corinth, the Apostle Paul sets out some key principles about giving for the work of the gospel. (Quotations from 2 Corinthians except where indicated.)
Principles of Giving
- regularly, setting aside a sum of money on the first day.... (1 Cor 16:2)
- sacrificially, despite our needs (8:1-2)
- generously, as much as we are able (8:3-7)
- gratefully, for Christ who became poor that we might be rich (8:8-9)
- realistically, according to our means (8:10-12; 1 Cor 16:2)
- equally, our plenty to supply the need of others (8:13-15)
- properly, ensuring our management of money is above reproach (8:16-24)
- consistently, ensuring our practice matches our preaching (9:1-5)
- freely, not reluctantly but cheerfully (9:6-7)
- confidently, trusting that God will always supply our needs (9:8-11)
- encouragingly, that others will praise God (9:12-17)
Practical Stuff
One of the best ways to give is by standing order. This reduces administration for the church and for you and ensures that your giving to the work of the gospel is regular and consistent.
Please fill-in the Standing Order Mandate in this leaflet and return it to your bank or building society.
Gift Aid is a Government scheme whereby charities are able to reclaim tax payable on gifts received (currently 25p for every £1 you give). If you are a taxpayer this makes your gift even more valuable to us at no extra cost to you.
Please fill-in the Gift Aid form in this leaflet and return it to the Church Treasurers (Graham Birch, Barry Hills) or Gift Aid Secretary (Mike Gilby).
We rely on the giving of our members and regular attendees to finance our ministries and mission.
If you consider yourself a regular here, please prayerfully consider giving on a regular basis.
If you do give regularly (and are a tax payer) please ensure you have signed a gift aid form.
